design philosophy

In designing a home or addition, our job is to provide a number of solutions to the problems and criteria defined by the homeowner. It is generally easier for homeowners to review and critique several possible solutions rather than create a solution from scratch themselves. Therefore, our job is to generate design alternatives which evolve into a cohesive plan incorporating the homeowner's needs and wishes. The goal is to have a good, seamless design while meeting the client's needs.

HOMETEC does not specialize in any particular style of design. We are interested in designing to the homeowner’s specifications. Often, a homeowner provides photographs or explains the desired style. We do our best to incorporate elements of that style into the home, explaining any trade - offs and how some of these styling elements might be integrated into the home so that appropriate choices might be made. What we might personally do to a house is secondary to what the homeowner wants to do. We take the homeowner’s desires and tastes and show how they can be integrated into the home, resulting in a smooth, cohesive package. Our goal is to never produce a home that looks as if it has an obvious addition, or a home that somehow looks out of balance or unnatural. We want to conclude the project with a very complete package: A home that looks like a custom home even though it may have been built in different phases.

Another aspect of design we like to bring to the homeowner’s attention is that of future marketability of the home. As a licensed realtor, Rick takes each design idea and explains its pros and cons as they relates to future marketability. For some homeowners, this is a major concern, for others, a very minor one, often depending on how long they plan to live in the home. As with all designs, each aspect has pros and cons. But ultimate, the homeowner decides on the final design based on their own personal criteria.
